چکیده مقاله:

The segmentation of high resolution remote sensing images is one of the most important analyses that play a significant role in the maximal and exact extraction of information.  There are different types of segmentation methods among which using  superpixels is one of the most important ones. Several methods have been proposed for extracting superpixels. Among the most successful ones, we can refer to SLIC method. This method has some disadvantages among  which can  refer to over segmentation and noncompliance with the real objects. Here, in this study, we have tried to overcome these drawbacks and propose a novel method for segmentation of large-scale images  by adding edge information to the SLIC algorithm. Three different urban data including airborn and spaceborn images with high space resolution and different objects diversity have been chosen with evaluate the proposed method. The results of the proposed method have been compared to the original SLIC algorithm and other common superpixel segmentation techniques, such as DBSCAN, and superpixel segmentation with entropy rates.  The quantitative comparison of the results with the help of the standard deviation parameter within the class (WCSD) shows that in case of satellite images with an average of about 780 and 1040 units and in the case of aerial images with an average of about 220 units, the standard deviation of the produced segments in the proposed method is less than the other competing methods. The visual comparison also indicates that the components produced by the proposed method have the lowest standard deviation and are homogeneous.

Fast Segmentation and Classification of Very High Resolution Remote Sensing Data Using SLIC Superpixels

Speed and accuracy are important factors when dealing with time-constraint events for disaster, risk, and crisis-management support. Object-based image analysis can be a time consuming task in extracting information from large images because most of the segmentation algorithms use the pixel-grid for the initial object representation. It would be more natural and efficient to work with perceptua...

BSLIC: SLIC Superpixels Based on Boundary Term

A modified method for better superpixel generation based on simple linear iterative clustering (SLIC) is presented and named BSLIC in this paper. By initializing cluster centers in hexagon distribution and performing k-means clustering in a limited region, the generated superpixels are shaped into regular and compact hexagons. The additional cluster centers are initialized as edge pixels to imp...

SLIC Superpixels

Superpixels are becoming increasingly popular for use in computer vision applications. However, there are few algorithms that output a desired number of regular, compact superpixels with a low computational overhead. We introduce a novel algorithm that clusters pixels in the combined five-dimensional color and image plane space to efficiently generate compact, nearly uniform superpixels. The si...

Improving the Speed of Multiresolution Segmentation Using Slic Superpixels

The popular multiresolution segmentation (MRS) algorithm is time and memory consuming when dealing with large images because it uses the pixel-grid for the initial object representation. In this study, we have tested a new workflow for image segmentation of remote sensing data, starting the MRS (using the ESP2 tool) from the superpixel level (using SLIC superpixels) and aiming at dramatically r...

Fast and Robust Variational Optical Flow for High-Resolution Images Using SLIC Superpixels

We show how pixel-based methods can be applied to a sparse image representation resulting from a superpixel segmentation. On this sparse image representation we only estimate a single motion vector per superpixel, without working on the full-resolution image. This allows the accelerated processing of high-resolution content with existing methods. The use of superpixels in optical flow estimatio...
